A Reason For The Madness

"In his new book, The South Beach Wake-Up Call, Dr. Arthur Agatston emphasizes the importance of functional fitness — core-strengthening exercises that mimic everyday activities, such as bending and lifting — in addition to cardio conditioning." "Functional exercises... essential for preventing injury and helping you maintain a healthy weight."

There you have it! I need to remember that the exercises I do so much can actually help me with activities that epitomize common situations. I should keep these reasons in mind when I feel like I am dragging at workout class. There really is a reason for all that pain brought on from the Body Heart fitness classes

I guess those bent-over rows from Bootcamp can actually help build a multitude of muscles that could carry over to real-world tasks like lifting up the dog to place him into the tub. Or, those multidirectional lunges that would help with vacuuming the house or doing strenuous yard work. How about those squats that could be useful when needs to, say, move the couch to clean underneath it? It is nice to know that these moves can help do more to create a healthy life than I originally thought.

A Vday Treat Scorned

The immense group of mechanically produced souls are quickly herded into a straight line. One-by-one they glide past on a conveyor belt to quickly get professionally dressed in brown suits for the big day ahead of them. When the wardrobe phase is complete, a large metal claw picks up each one and carefully nestles the individuals in private paper cups. Afterwards, the tastefully dressed treats, sitting in their paper thrones, are funneled into artfully crafted, red padded boxes. Feeling confident in their new heart-shaped home, each group of chocolatey goodies embarks on their Valentine's Day journey.

As fate would have it, one such heart shaped box ended up on the kitchen counter in the home of the Body Smart Gal. Oh, but fate was not so kind to these prized Valentine's Day goodies. These overly confident chocolate soldiers expected to get gobbled up in seconds time. Conversations grew louder among the delectable group of truffles all relating to the glorious legends of their honorable, ancient ancestors who managed to get devoured so quickly that stomach aches ensued. The truffles were sure they could also achieve such an honorable status.

Yet, time creeped by, and the heart-shaped lid never opened. The sweets started to become anxious; the lack of attention started to brew panic. Heated discussions broke out, the main topic relating to how all the sugar they were made of was meant to be irresistible to everyone.

They became convinced something was wrong with the Body Smart Gal, since they were certain no normal person had enough willpower to avoid them. Then, a few brave truffles lifted the heart-shaped lid and the confidence in the candy bunch faded. What they looked upon baffled them. They saw the Body Smart Gal truly enjoying a modest portion of freshly made dark chocolate covered strawberries. The group of truffles were confused as to how this could happen... they knew they were comprised of more sugar, more calories, and a higher fat content, a recipe they believed to be an irresistible fire storm. But, as they gazed ahead, the sharply dressed strawberries laughed at these chocolate castaways. The earth turned gloomy for this mechanically produced crowd as the fresh fruit was being enjoyed and they remained forgotten.

Body Smart Soy & Ginger Pork Chops

These pork chops are marinated to greatness. These got eaten up so quickly. The good food on the Body Smart plan makes me happy.
